Welcome to Senior Infants 2018/2019
This year we plan to have a busy, but fun year!!! See some of the fun we have been having so far below:
School is the place to Bee!
We learned all about Bees and how important they are for our planet. We made bee hives and tasted honey, Ms. MacCarthy showed us a live bee but we let it go free again.

Literacy Stations, we are having great fun at our stations making letters from marla, writing on our whiteboards and learning our rhymes.
Story time, SAMMY THE SHARK came to visit and is still watching over us in our classroom!!!!!! Scary!!!!! We really enjoyed when Ms. Barry read the story of, Don’t Eat The Teacher!!
WORLD SPACE WEEK, Ms. Barry helped us to make rockets and we launched them in school and sang to the tune of Major Tom by David Bowe. We painted space pictures, made the planets and learned their names. We had a really great time.
PE,every Wednesday we walk to Coláiste Stiofán Naofa where our coaches teach us soccer skills, games and keep fit. It is very tiring work and we are always thirsty and very tired after our workout!!!!!!
HALLOWEEN, at Morning Star is a great occasion. We got to taste barn brack, dress up, dance to the thriller song. We even got to try and make scary mummies with our friends from toilet roll we had great fun and laughter!!!!!!
As Winter is here and the weather is getting very cold and wet, Ms. Moriarty helped us to make bird feeders for the birds who live near our school. The birds find it hard to source food in the Winter time. We hung the bird feeders in our school garden and watched as lots of birds fed on them every day. We are very proud of our bird feeders.
We love working on lots of science experiments for example dancing raisins, learning about how to make pop corn and eat it!!!!. We had a visitor from Fota Wildlife who spoke to us about Bio Diversity we got to hold an Ostrich egg!!!!!! We had great fun.
Christmas at Morning Star is always a lovely time, Santa comes to visit, we sing carol songs for our families, this year we made healthy food for all of Santa's reindeer and planted seeds to take home and look after.
Welcome back everyone, we hope you had a safe and happy Christmas and we look forward to sharing a great 2019 with you, Ms. MacCarthy and Ms. Barry would like to thank you for your support in 2018 and of course your continued support in 2019.

St. Brigid's day was on 1st of February Lá le Bríde, and we learned how to make the St. Brigid's cross. We learned a lot about St. Brigid and her life helping the poor. Legend has it that the cross is suppose to protect houses in case of fire.

Our Senior Infants have been having a very busy time over the past couple of months. We planted some Mr Tickle Seeds and they grew in to cress, Ms. MacCarthy/Ms. Barry read the story of Mr. Tickle to us and we drew and coloured some pictures of him. World Book Day was great fun at Morning Star. We read the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit.' We did some great writing and colouring see our pictures below. We also played Where's Wally? he was hidden in some strange places!!!!! We made hats and banners for St. Patrick's Day and we all brought them to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Cork. Seachtaine Na Gaeilge was An Mhaith, see our pictures of us winning certificates for Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine. For the month of March and April we were very busy practicing for the Cór Féile at the City Hall. We had a great night and were the stars of the show (or so we are told) by our mammies!!!! Scoot on Wednesday's (SOW) part of our green schools flag, has been very successful in Morning Star everyone either walked, cycled or scooted to school. We had a lady speak to us about safety on our scooters. Some of the boys in our class won awards for homework, effort, behaviour well done boys. One of the boys in our class Evan made a super boat from recycled materials he looks great in the photo. We drew Easter Bunnies in our Art class. Ms. Barry helped us with these as we found them a little bit hard to do.
ACTIVE SCHOOL WEEK. As part of our active school week Morning Star took part in our Annual Sponsorship Walk to The Lough. It was a lovely sunny day and we had so much fun as you can see by the photos. We were very tired when we got back to school and soooooo hungry!!! As part of the ASW we had active homework every night, lots of Go Noodle activities we had so much fun and got fit too!!
Our School Tour
We went to ‘Go Safari’ for our school tour this year. It seemed like the longest wait ever for the bus Friday morning because we were SO excited!! We were so lucky because we had the place to ourselves. The boys had so much fun on the slide and climbing frame. We also tried the climbing wall and the zip line. The zip line was a bit nerve wracking at the beginning but everyone who tried it, loved it! We even managed to squeeze in a bit of art into our day! Lunch was served upstairs: chicken nuggets and chips!! The boys were fantastic and did our school proud. Our final year awards were held on 28th June the boys were very happy to receive their certificates. Bike week was amazing. Almost all the boys brought in their bicycles for display.
As we come to the end of the term, we are very sad to say goodbye to Ms. Barry and thank her for all her hard work. We will all miss her so much!!!! Thank you to all the parents of Senior Infants 2018/2019 for your support and co-operation over the last year. Best of luck to the new 1st class boys too. Have a great summer everyone. |
