Teacher: Miriam Canty
SNAs: Tricia, Lisa & Margaret
Welcome back to Ms Canty's class!!
The boys in our class are full of fun and creativity.
Here is a little of what we get up to.
Elizabeth Fort
We had another fantastic day out exploring our wonderful Cork City. This time we headed up Barrack Street and in Elizabeth Fort. The boys (and adults) really enjoyed learning about the importance of the fort and exploring the star shaped structure. There was so much history to Elizabeth Fort dating from 1601 when it was built in response to The Battle of Kinsale, through the famine, the War of independence, the Civil War, and the second World War to as recently as 2013 when it was a working Garda station and closed it's doors.
The Early Early Toy Show aired in our classroom today and the boys had a great time telling us about their favourite toy and they even had individual intro music with some serious dance moves!!
We had a wonderful morning taking part in an online science workshop via
The Lifetime Lab. The boys explored circuits at their own stations and really
enjoyed the workshop!
The boys had a great day out in Cork City today. We visited The Shandon Bells, The Firkin Crane for an amazing dance workshop!! Our final stop was, of course, at the famous Shandon Sweets where we all got some delicious sweets and saw where they make them too :)
HALLOWEEN!!!!
All of the boys in the school loved dressing up for Halloween this year. We played games with our friends in 3rd and 4th class and had a small party in our own classroom.

The Amber Flag committee recently ran a poster competition.
Congratulations to these two boys on winning the poster competition for 3rd class!!
We also raised money for Pieta House with everyone wearing bright coloured clothes :)
The lovely Sineád spent the day in our hall doing yoga and breathing sessions with each class.

Our Trip to Cork City
The boys had a wonderful day out exploring the many sights and sounds
of our city. We were very luck with the weather and met some very
interesting people along the way!

The boys loved Cork's first asphalt artwork on the top of Oliver Plunkett Street which is part of The Glucksman Open Road project.
It was such an unexpected visual delight!!

We had a look at the famous 'Berwick Fountain' on the Grand Parade. It was built in 1860
The boys just about resisted jumping in for a swim, but did throw in a coin and make a wish!
The boys loved visiting our first responders the Garda Síochána and the
Fire Brigade on Anglesea Street. Thank you for all that you do to help keep
us safe. They received lovely goodie bags from the firefighters and were
able to try on a safety helmet too!

The English Market
We had such an amazing experience walking through the English Market. The boys met some fantastic people who work there. We were shown a pigs head, pigs feet and the lady showed us a pigs heart which is the same size as the boys!! The boys were amazed at the fish counters, some loved it and others were a little grossed out!! We also had a lovely picnic and water break at the beautiful new benches and flower stands by the River Lee. |
Handwriting: The boys have been working on handwriting and are building up their fine motor strength by writing on a variety of srufaces such as under tables, on the walls while standing up and lying on their stomachs on the floor. They love finding new places to stick their handwriting!

Board games: many thanks to our wonderful parents who have sent in a great selection of board games for the boys. The boys have great fun while also working on turn taking, patience, winning/losing and many other social skills!

The boys brought in recyclable materials from home and they
created amazing Junk Art!
The boys were experimenting with electricity. They used a
battery pack and connected wires to make a light bulb light up
and a fan blow air! The boys really enjoy experimenting and
exploring new things :)
