I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all very sincerely for your support throughout Term 1. The children were so enthusiastic and more than willing to follow the Covid19 Guidelines that are designed to keep us all safe and healthy. We also thank you for adhering to the new guidelines announced last week which include wearing a mask in crowded outdoor spaces such as at the school gate. However we would recommend that everyone maintains social distance at the school gate also.
I want to pay tribute to the staff of Morning Star too, who have done an unbelievable job to maintain a sense of normality and safety for the children and their families. I would like to echo the Taoiseach's comments also regarding how heroic so many children have been throughout 2020, especially in the way they have adapted to the change in school routines..
Parent teacher meetings have already started and if you haven't had your meeting yet, your child's teacher will be in touch soon. Meetings can be conducted by phone or video conference but not in person this year. When we are allowed to meet in person in the future, we may also offer you the option of a phone or video conference instead if you so wish.
Our apologies in relation to any confusion in relation to paying for small items with cash. For accounting transparency, we are using software that allows our Treasurer and Accountant to see every transaction and easily certify our accounts at year end. Miscellaneous small transactions and cash deposits make it difficult to do that. However, we understand that a few people have had difficulty so we will accept cash for small items such as Christmas Annuals and small fundraisers such as the upcoming Christmas costume day. However we would prefer card payments if possible. Any child who wants a Christmas Annual should be allowed to get one. However, for the main payments such as Book Rental and School Tours, we can only accept Aladdin payments. Thank you all so much for getting on board with our Aladdin system so quickly. It has made correspondence and administration much more efficient.
From January, the 15 minute gap between Group A, B and C entries will be reduced to 5 minutes. We have had a 15 minute gap between group entry in the mornings to allow all students and staff to get used to the staggered entry procedures but we feel that we can reduce the gaps now. Group A will enter at 8.40, Group B at 8.45 and Group C at 8.50 (Group C finishing time is likely to be extended to 2.30 in January also). We don't have an exact date yet because we are awaiting confirmation on when the new top entrance will be available to us and when work on the car park gate will begin and end. Staff will also have to meet, plan and rehearse the new procedures. Therefore, we will inform you of the exact date of the new start times.
We are fortunate to have had several Video Assemblies in the school throughout term 1, where the children have shown their work, told stories and poems and displayed their projects. We also had our Awards Ceremony via video conference. Keep an eye on your class page on the school website for photos or class activities (www.morningstarschool.ie).
We are delighted to report that the new school building is complete and we are now awaiting the completion of the new playground. We look forward to sending you photos and a video tour in January when the building work is complete.
There will be a half day on Tuesday, December 22nd for Christmas Holidays and we will return on January 6th.
Wishing you all a safe and peaceful Christmas season.
